Hey, I'm Jay. I'm a dad of 3 gorgeous girls and a blue Staffy named Bonnie. I love photographing beautiful families just like yours. Are you ready to book in a family portrait session? Fill out your details and I'll give you a call.
Figuring out newborn photoshoot clothes for the whole family doesn’t have to be complicated. You want to coordinate without being overly “matchy-matchy,” avoid clashing colours, and pick outfits that reflect you. Not sure? Text me photos of what you’re thinking—yes, really! I’m always happy to help you narrow it down.
Dressing Your Baby
I’ve spent years collecting the sweetest newborn photoshoot clothes for my families to use during their sessions—so you don’t have to go buying a thing! Here’s what I look for:
✅ The perfect fit: Clothes that fit well (not too big or small) so baby doesn’t get lost in the outfit.
✅ Comfort is key: Soft, breathable fabrics that won’t irritate baby’s skin. Many of my rompers are designed so I can gently slip them on without waking baby.
✅ Keep it simple: Neutral tones, timeless textures. No bold patterns or distracting prints—this keeps the focus on your baby.
✅ Timeless over trendy: Creams, whites, soft pastels photograph beautifully and won’t date over time.
✅ Thoughtful accessories: I have a selection of simple, subtle headbands for girls that can add a pop of colour and interest to your newborn photos.
Have a cultural or traditional outfit you’d love to include? Absolutely—let’s make it part of your session!
What Should Mum Wear?
Let’s be honest: Mum’s outfit is usually the hardest to choose (because you barely have time to get in a shower, let alone choose an outfit for yourself). My biggest goal is for you to feel beautiful and comfortable.
✅ Flowing dresses work wonders—they’re flattering, comfortable, and photograph like a dream.
✅ Stick to soft, neutral tones – think pastels and earthy colours.Dark, solid colours are fine too – just make sure other family members are in the same colour palette. When in doubt, put everyone in plain white (just make sure the clothes look fairly new without any stretched necklines or stains).
✅ Avoid super bright colours or bold patterns which can be distracting.
✅ Delicate jewellery is perfect—keeps it simple but adds a little something special.
✅ Don’t worry about shoes for yourself or anyone else – your feet most likely won’t end up in the photos anyway.
What Should Dad Wear?
Dads, you’re part of the story too! And the good news? Your outfit can be simple and comfy.
✅ Neutral, muted colours like navy, beige, soft greens—these always work beautifully.
✅ Choose a style that fits your vibe: a collared shirt, a plain t-shirt, or even a textured knit jumper. Just steer clear of bold logos, crazy patterns, or anything too formal.
✅ If you’re comfortable going shirtless, we can take a few skin-to-skin photos with your baby which look absolutely beautiful and intimate.
✅ Make sure it complements mum’s and other kids’ outfits.
And What About Siblings?
Yes—big brothers and sisters are definitely included! I always encourage families to involve siblings in their newborn photoshoot. It’s not just about the new baby—it’s about your growing family.
✅ Coordinate their outfits with yours—similar tones or complementary colours work best.
✅ Avoid logos, bold prints, or neon colours.
✅ Want to bring a bit of fun? Tutus, tiaras, suspenders—let’s capture their personalities too! Just avoid anything with heavy patterns or prints.
✅ Shoes? Totally optional – my preference is to have the kids barefoot which looks much cuter and more natural.

What to Avoid
When it comes to newborn photoshoot clothes, here’s what I recommend skipping:
🚫 Busy patterns (they distract from the emotions and connection in your photos)
🚫 Bright neon colours (they mess with skin tones)
🚫 Logos and graphics (they date your photos and pull focus)
🚫 Super trendy styles (what’s “in” now might feel cringey later)
🚫 Big contrasts (like black vs. white) that break visual harmony. Go all dark or all light for a more cohesive look.
Final Thoughts
Your newborn photoshoot should be relaxed, meaningful, and totally you. The clothes? They’re just one part of the puzzle—but choosing well makes everything feel seamless and connected.
I’ll be with you every step of the way, from helping you pick outfits, to bringing newborn photoshoot props, to styling your session so it feels natural and easy.
