Hey, I'm Jay. I'm a dad of 3 gorgeous girls and a blue Staffy named Bonnie. I love photographing beautiful families just like yours. Are you ready to book in a family portrait session? Fill out your details and I'll give you a call.
When you book a family photo shoot with me, there are three important decisions we need to make before we start capturing those beautiful memories together.
1. What are your artwork preferences?
I want your photos to be displayed exactly the way you envision them in your home. Do you prefer canvas or framed prints? Both options have their own unique appeal, so it’s essential to choose what resonates best with your style and the ambiance of your living space.
Perhaps you’d love to have a photo album or hand-crafted timber print box, which looks stunning displayed in places like a hutch, TV unit or bookshelf. Explore my artwork range here.
2. Studio or outdoors?
The backdrop can significantly influence the mood and atmosphere of your photos, so it’s essential to choose a location that truly reflects your family’s personality and what you’d like to see on display at home. My outdoor family portrait sessions take place at a beautiful reserve near the studio, which is pram and toddler friendly and features a beautiful calm river, sand bank and a grove of trees to explore. My studio sessions take place in my Sutherland studio, which is private and modern and is set up with a selection of fine-art textured backdrops for you to choose from. If your kids are 6 months or younger, I’d highly recommend a studio session.
3. Clothing choice (this is important)
What you wear can significantly impact the overall look and feel of your family photos. The key here is to achieve a cohesive appearance without being too matchy-matchy. The 80’s is in the past where it belongs!
To start, let’s consider the style and colors of your home decor. If you plan to display your photos on the walls, selecting outfits that complement the style of your living space is a great idea. For example, if your home has a rustic or country-style vibe, go for soft earthy neutrals or pastel tones. On the other hand, if you have a modern and vibrant home, feel free to embrace bold and bright colors that add a pop of energy!
Remember, it’s best to avoid heavy patterns and stripes, as they can be distracting and can date your photos. Check out my family portrait gallery for outfit and location inspiration.
If you plan ahead, it will make your life so much easier, because you’ll know what to wear, what to expect at the shoot, and be confident that you’ll walk away with beautiful photos of your family that are exactly what you imagined.
