In February this year (2022) I moved into my new studio. My landlord decided he wanted to move in to my Miranda studio, which was upsetting at first, but I saw it as an opportunity to find somewhere permanent to set up.
After months of scouring real estate websites and inspecting properties (some of which looked more like haunted houses than commercial offices!), I found a space in Sutherland with some potential. It was walking distance to the girls’ school, and a 5 minute drive from home.
I was really impressed with the building: it was well-maintained and quiet, with only 2 other offices. It had central air, big bathrooms and was cleaned weekly. The office space had big windows with beautiful natural light and fresh air pouring in (unlike the old studio which relied on artificial lights).
I was sold. I put an offer in (with the help of my dad, who is a master negotiator), they accepted, and in December 2021 I had the keys to the permanent home of Delight Images.
The next few months were spent planning and renovating the studio. The first order of business was getting rid of this horrific eggplant-purple carpet (what were the previous owners thinking??):

I brought in furniture from home, which my clients (and their kids) love.
I installed a track picture hanging system to make it easier to update and move my wall art samples around (which happens a LOT – I’m forever updating my studio samples!).
I have a MUCH bigger and wider shooting space now, and have started painting my own backdrops (like this one). I can’t tell you how much easier it is to have space to store props, and to have the width for a larger backdrop to accommodate larger families!
I’m in love with my new studio and it’s a place that I love to hang out in. I’ve already photographed quite a few maternity, newborn and family sessions in here and it just feels so good being able to welcome families into a clean, comfortable, private modern space which I can call my own.
