I've heard this many times from mums on our discovery call before their family photo shoot.

When I ask why, it's usually that they are not comfortable with their post-baby body. I totally get this! Your body naturally changes after having a baby and you may not be used to the reflection you see in the mirror.

But let me ask you - when your little bub is walking and talking, in primary school, an adult... what will they want to see in their photos? Will they be looking for their mum and dad - the most important people in their lives?

Will they even care what your body looks like?

Those green eyes 😍

It’s so much fun photographing one year olds! They’re just starting to toddle, never stop smiling, and just love being thrown around.

Many of my families come back one year after their newborn session to celebrate their little one hitting their first big milestone. It’s always a pleasant surprise to see how much they’ve developed and how their personality has changed over the year.

Every photograph that leaves my studio is carefull

Every photograph that leaves my studio is carefully edited by hand and printed on museum-grade fine art paper (the colours and sharpness are like nothing you’ve ever seen before - but I guess I’m biased 😉).

I then assemble your print onto an acid-free mat and protect it in a clear sleeve for its safe journey home.

Your prints are guaranteed for life to ensure you enjoy them for years (and generations) to come.

I photographed my first newborn baby in 2014.

Scrolling through all the “established” photographers’ galleries, I was overwhelmed with all of the choices.

Some of them had babies perfectly positioned in elaborate baskets, surrounded by extravagant floral arrangements. Others had their babies hanging perfectly in tiny little baby hammocks.

Not knowing where to start, naturally, I bought -all the things-. I bought wraps in every colour of the rainbow (“what if they want light pink instead of dusty pink? I’d better get both), and baskets and bowls in every imaginable size.

Over the months, I tried copying those elaborate setups, and of course… failed miserably.

At every shoot though, I still made sure to get a few photos with mum and dad simply holding and admiring their baby (along with the dismal attempts at the “arty” photos of the baby).

It’s a “captain obvious” moment in hindsight, but it took me a couple of years to realise that my clients actually didn’t want the fancy baby photos.

They craved simplicity. They wanted emotion. They wanted connection. They wanted to remember that fleeting, powerful moment when two became three.

Since then, I’ve tried my best to capture as much raw emotion and connection for every family I photograph, like the Raj family here who I’ve had the pleasure of photographing since their wedding four years ago.

Now I only have 3 wraps in the studio - and they’re all shades of brown 😂

Because parenthood is exciting, it is beautiful and nothing short of magical, so your memories should be too 📸
